HUMANITY AND PATRIOTISM IN HARMONY

Updated: Apr 26, 2021

Songs that are made with purpose, and that is to uplift our compassion for our fellow Filipinos and our beloved country..

Lupang Hinirang

Started as an instrumental composition of the Filipino composer, Julián Felipe. It is said to be based on Spain's National anthem Marcha Real and France's Le Marseillaise. The anthem was formely known as Marcha Nacional Filipina.

On August 1899, they began to create the lyrics of the anthem, the spanish poem Filipinas (Tierra Adorada) by Jose Palma was later adapted to the tune of Marcha Nacional, but it was said that the poem didn't start in Spanish language, it was just that Spanish was still the lingua franca (common language) of the country, intead it was written in Kapampangan, the peom was said to be based from a Kapampangan poem Labuan Mapalad (Most Blessed Land) by Mariano Proceso Byron Pabalan.

Since there was a prohibition of composing under the Flag Act of 1907 which was created when the Americans entered the country, the composition was banned. But, in 1919 the law was repealed, allowing the Commonwealth Act No. 382 in 1938 to adopt the Marcha Nacional Filipina as the nation's anthem. The Filipinas was translated into English, there were numerous versions presented but Camilio Osias and A.L. Lane's "Land of the Morning" stand out and is the most notable translation, and later made to be the official lyrics of Philippine National Anthem in 1938.

During 1940's, the perspective of singing the anthem into English changed to the view that was not to be sung in the language of invaders and since other proposed that Tagalog must be hailed as the national language, it led the Filipinas translated into tagalog. The Diwa ng Bayan is the first Tagalog translation of the said poem in the times of Japanese regime, the Tagalog translation of the poem was apparently used as a hymn by HUKBALAHAP (Hukbong Bayan Laban sa Hapon). In 1958, Lupang Hinirang by Felipe Padilla de León was recognized as the lyrics of the national anthem and was finalized as the revised composition was produced.

But aside from our beloved and respected nation's anthem, there are a lot of songs that were created to symbolize the love, compassion, and patriotism within the country....
